Open Letter to the Mayor of Ahmedabad and the Municipal Commissioner of Ahmedabad
Message for Kankaria Carnival 2025
I am Darshan Patel, a citizen of India by birth and a permanent resident of Mexico since 2017. After spending 72 days in a house-arrest–like situation, I am presently residing at Naz Village, Ahmedabad. I am actively engaged in community and cultural initiatives connected to the city.
This year holds special importance as it marks the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Sardar Patel served Ahmedabad as an elected civic leader and was the Chairman of the Ahmedabad Municipality from 1917 to 1924, a role equivalent to today’s Mayor. During his tenure, he led significant reforms in sanitation, water supply, civic discipline, taxation, and public administration. His life and work stood firmly for simplicity, equality, discipline, and public-first governance.
In this spirit, during Kankaria Carnival 2025, my humble request is that there should be no VVIP or VIP culture, especially in this historic year. Public festivals must reflect equality, discipline, and respect for all citizens—values that Sardar Patel strongly upheld throughout his life.
Additionally, I would like to request permission to set up a stall at the Carnival, with an ideal space of 15 ft × 30 ft. I respectfully request that the stall be considered complementary, as it will be used purely for public awareness and social impact, and not for any commercial activity.

હું દર્શાન પટેલ, જન્મથી ભારતનો નાગરિક અને વર્ષ 2017થી મેક્સિકાનો સ્થાયી રહેવાસી છું. 72 દિવસ સુધી ઘરબંધી જેવી પરિસ્થિતિમાં સમય વિતાવ્યા બાદ, હાલમાં હું નાઝ વિલેજ, અમદાવાદ ખાતે નિવાસ કરી રહ્યો છું. હું અમદાવાદ સાથે સંકળાયેલી વિવિધ સામાજિક તથા સાંસ્કૃતિક પહેલોમાં સક્રિય રીતે જોડાયેલો છું.
આ વર્ષ વિશેષ મહત્વ ધરાવે છે કારણ કે તે સરદાર વલ્લભભાઈ પટેલની 150મી જન્મજયંતિનું વર્ષ છે. સરદાર પટેલે અમદાવાદમાં ચૂંટાયેલા નાગરિક નેતા તરીકે સેવા આપી હતી અને તેઓ 1917 થી 1924 દરમિયાન અમદાવાદ મ્યુનિસિપાલિટીના ચેરમેન રહ્યા હતા, જે પદ આજના મેયર સમકક્ષ હતું. તેમના કાર્યકાળ દરમિયાન તેમણે સફાઈ, પાણી પુરવઠો, નાગરિક શિસ્ત, કર સુધારા અને જાહેર વહીવટ ક્ષેત્રે મહત્વપૂર્ણ પરિવર્તનો લાવ્યા હતા. તેમનું સમગ્ર જીવન સરળતા, સમાનતા, શિસ્ત અને જનહિતને પ્રથમ સ્થાન આપતી શાસનવ્યવસ્થાનું પ્રતીક રહ્યું છે.
આ ભાવનાને અનુરૂપ, કાંકરિયા કાર્નિવલ 2025 દરમિયાન મારી વિનમ્ર વિનંતી છે કે ખાસ કરીને આ ઐતિહાસિક વર્ષમાં કોઈપણ પ્રકારની VVIP અથવા VIP સંસ્કૃતિ ન હોવી જોઈએ. જાહેર ઉત્સવોમાં સમાનતા, શિસ્ત અને દરેક નાગરિક પ્રત્યે આદર પ્રતિબિંબિત થવો જોઈએ—આ મૂલ્યો સરદાર પટેલે જીવનભર જાળવ્યા હતા.
આ ઉપરાંત, હું કાર્નિવલમાં 15 ફૂટ × 30 ફૂટ વિસ્તારના એક સ્ટોલ સ્થાપિત કરવાની પરવાનગી વિનંતી કરું છું. આ સ્ટોલ સંપૂર્ણપણે જાહેર જાગૃતિ અને સામાજિક પ્રભાવ માટે ઉપયોગમાં લેવાશે અને કોઈપણ વ્યાવસાયિક પ્રવૃત્તિ માટે નહીં, તેથી કૃપા કરીને તેને પૂરક (Complementary) રૂપે મંજૂરી આપવા વિનંતી છે.
